Precious metals fintech Goldwise completes £1.6m pre-seed funding round

Cardiff-based fintech Goldwise has completed a £1.6 million pre-seed funding round to support the next phase of growth for its physical precious metals trading platform and infrastructure business.

Founded by former Royal Mint executives Gareth Tucker and Jatin Patel, Goldwise is a member of both FinTech Wales and Innovate Finance. The company enables individuals and financial institutions—including banks, wealth managers, investment platforms and fintechs—to access, trade and own physical precious metals.

The £1.6 million funding round included a £240,000 Crowdcube campaign backed by more than 230 investors, £250,000 from the Development Bank of Wales via Angels Invest Wales and £255,000 from a syndicate of business angels, alongside investment from the founders and family offices.

Goldwise has successfully launched its UK platform, with customers now actively buying and selling fractional physical gold, silver, platinum and palladium through the Goldwise app. The funding provides the foundation for the company’s next phase of growth across both its infrastructure and consumer channels.

The business has adopted a dual-distribution strategy, combining a consumer platform for individual investors with its Precious Metals as a Service (PMaaS) infrastructure proposition for financial institutions.

While consumers can buy and trade physical precious metals through the Goldwise app, banks, wealth managers, investment platforms, fintechs, pension providers and digital asset platforms can embed the company’s institutional-grade infrastructure into their own services.

Alongside the UK launch of its mobile app, Goldwise is currently integrating with wealth platforms, including a leading payments fintech expanding into wealth services, with a partnership and launch announcement expected in the coming months.

Goldwise’s PMaaS platform brings together trading, custody, payments, compliance and ledger capabilities into a single infrastructure solution for physical gold, silver, platinum and palladium. This enables financial institutions to offer precious metals through their existing platforms.

The company’s progress comes at a time when precious metals are becoming increasingly important to both the world’s financial system and the technologies shaping its future.

While gold recently reached successive record highs before experiencing a market pullback, the long-term outlook remains underpinned by strong structural fundamentals.

Governments continue to accumulate debt while higher interest rates increase the cost of servicing that debt. Central banks globally have continued to increase gold purchases, reinforcing gold’s role as a strategic reserve asset.

Gold has also recently overtaken the euro to become the world’s second-largest global reserve asset by market value, underscoring its growing importance within the international financial system.

At the same time, demand for precious metals continues to grow across artificial intelligence, semiconductors, renewable energy, aerospace, defence and advanced electronics, where finite supply and increasing industrial demand are creating powerful long-term fundamentals.

Gareth Tucker, Co-Founder of Goldwise, said:

“The world has changed. Gold is no longer just a safe-haven asset.

“Precious metals are becoming increasingly strategic to both the world’s financial system and the technologies shaping its future. They are essential to artificial intelligence infrastructure, semiconductors, renewable energy, aerospace, defence, medical technology and the smartphones we carry every day.

“Unlike many assets, supply is finite and the majority of economically recoverable precious metals have already been mined. At the same time, governments continue to accumulate debt while higher interest rates increase the cost of servicing that debt. Central banks globally continue to diversify reserves through increased gold purchases, reinforcing gold’s role within the international financial system. Gold has also recently overtaken the euro to become the world’s second-largest global reserve asset by market value, underscoring its growing strategic importance. Combined with gold’s long-term track record of preserving purchasing power, delivering attractive long-term returns and maintaining a low correlation to many traditional asset classes, we believe the long-term fundamentals for precious metals remain exceptionally strong.

“For decades, investors have owned precious metals to preserve wealth. Increasingly, they’ll own them because they protect portfolios, power the technologies shaping the future and have become an increasingly strategic asset within the global financial system.”

Jatin Patel, Co-Founder of Goldwise, said:

“Ownership is becoming increasingly important. Investors are recognising the difference between owning physical precious metals and simply gaining price exposure through financial products.

“Historically, direct ownership has often involved high minimum investments, complex processes and limited accessibility. Goldwise changes that by combining fractional ownership with a modern mobile experience that feels as intuitive as investing in shares or digital assets, while ensuring customers own real, physical precious metals.

“Technology has democratised access to almost every asset class. We believe physical precious metals should be no different, giving investors transparency, accessibility and, most importantly, true ownership.”

Tom Preene, Fund Manager at Angels Invest Wales, said:

“Gareth and Jatin have already demonstrated their ability to build and scale precious metals propositions within a regulated, institutional environment. Through the Wales Angel Co-Fund, we are pleased to match private angel investment to support ambitious Welsh fintech founders with global aspirations.”

The completion of Goldwise’s first funding round marks an important milestone for both the company and Wales’ growing fintech ecosystem.

With its UK platform now live, customers actively trading and integrations with wealth platforms underway, Goldwise is well positioned to accelerate growth across both its consumer and infrastructure businesses.
