Welsh LegalTech Innovators Invited to Join Global Incubator Programme in Canada
UK-based LegalTech businesses, including those within Wales’ vibrant fintech ecosystem, are now invited to apply for the third cohort of Innovate UK’s Global Incubator Programme (GIP) in Canada. Delivered in collaboration with the Legal Innovation Zone (LIZ) at Toronto Metropolitan University, this initiative offers an unparalleled opportunity for LegalTech firms to scale globally.
The Global Incubator Programme is designed for UK companies looking to access and expand into international markets by working with leading global incubators. For this cohort, up to eight LegalTech companies will be selected to join a bespoke programme of support and in-market activity in Toronto, Canada — a global hub for legal, financial, and technological innovation.
About the Programme
This fully funded initiative provides successful applicants with flights, accommodation, in-market travel, and access to expert resources. Companies will take part in a three-phase programme:
- Prepare: A UK-based preparation workshop to develop a strategic action plan with Innovate UK support.
- Pursue: A 4–6 month engagement with LIZ, including two market visits (October 2025 and March 2026), mentoring, group learning sessions, and a final demo day.
- Exploit: Continued support to capitalise on international connections and accelerate global growth.
Companies developing innovations in AI, data analytics, automation, contract management, legal research, discovery, or case management are strongly encouraged to apply.
Why Canada?
Toronto is the legal, financial and economic centre of Canada. The largest law firms — known as the ‘Seven Sisters’ — are headquartered there, as are the major banks. Toronto is also a central hub for technological innovation, making it an ideal base for LegalTech businesses seeking international growth.
The Legal Innovation Zone is the world’s largest legal technology incubator and has supported over 170 startups from more than 26 countries. LIZ offers LegalTech businesses a community of over 10,000 members and unrivalled access to Canada’s legal and financial ecosystem.
This programme is ideally suited to companies with a proven product in the UK market that are now looking to refine their Canadian value proposition, expand their network, and grow internationally.
