Welcome to the FinTech Five, the part of the week where we take a closer look at the best articles, news, and features from across our FinTech Wales members.

1. FinTech Wales’ Sarah Gardener-Williams hosts Fireside Chat with FinTech icon and Starling Bank founder, Anne Boden, during Wales Tech Week.

Next, in an insight-filled digital interview FinTech Wales’ CEO, Sarah Gardener-Williams, sat down (virtually) with fintech icon and Starling Bank founder, Anne Boden. The two discussed Anne’s insights from her inspiring journey to fintech disruptor status, her views on the state of banking today, and finally, where she sees the future for financial services in this eagerly anticipated Fireside Chat.

Anne Boden is a FinTech pioneer who leads the way in disrupting the banking industry. As an experienced banker, Anne had identified critical improvements needed within the established banking system, but tired of trying to force change from within, in 2014, Anne decided to build her very own Bank, as a result, Starling Bank now serves over two million accounts with modern, intuitive, safe and secure banking services.

FinTech Wales would like to offer our sincere gratitude to TramshedTech for powering the Fireside Chat, and to EY for sponsoring the event.

Gareth Lewis, co-founder of Delio commented:

  • The key regulatory challenges
  • The cost of compliance (and non-compliance)

4. FinTech Wales welcomes Kickstarter

Last but not least, we are delighted to announce that FinTech Wales is participating in the Kickstart Scheme, a government-led initiative that provides funding to create new jobs for 16 to 24-year-olds who are currently facing unemployment.

We would like to offer a warm welcome to our Kickstarter Tiffany Evans, an English Literature graduate from Cardiff University, who will be joining us as a Marketing Assistant.

Tiffany commented the following: “I’m excited to have been given the opportunity to work for FinTech Wales thanks to this amazing scheme and am very eager to both learn and broaden my Marketing skillset within this role over the coming months.”

We worked with The Fintech Times to find our Kickstarter and highly recommend other organisations participate in the scheme that benefits companies and candidates in equal measure.
