Voltric leads the charge in Wales’ electrifying journey toward sustainability

Voltric, a Fintech Wales member and alumni of the Fintech Wales Foundry Accelerator, has once again showcased its pioneering spirit in the world of electric vehicles (EVs). The team played a central role in this year’s EV Rally Cymru, held on November 13-14, 2024—a 500-mile, two-day event designed to spotlight the potential of EVs across Wales.

The Journey: Electrifying Wales

Starting at the iconic Roald Dahl Plass in Cardiff, the rally wound through some of Wales’ most scenic and rural landscapes, demonstrating the versatility and reliability of electric vehicles. The route included stops at key locations such as Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm, Powis Castle, and the National Library of Wales, before finishing at the Bay Technology Centre in Neath Port Talbot.

Team Voltric, the Charge Card Partner for the event, took their EV fleet—including the MG4, Skoda Enyaq, and Tesla—on a journey that proved EVs’ capability to traverse long distances using existing Welsh charging infrastructure. Impressively, their MG4 completed the rally using only AC (slow) charging, proving that reliable EV travel is possible even with limited resources.

A Rally of Firsts

Voltric demonstrated more than just EV capabilities. The MG4 proved to be the fastest EV in the rally—a thrilling highlight for the team and a testament to the vehicle’s efficiency and Wales’ charging network.

Additionally, Voltric played a vital role in enabling seamless charging experiences for all teams with their innovative RFID charge cards. This reinforced their commitment to removing barriers for EV adoption, ensuring drivers could focus on enjoying the rally and Wales’ stunning landscapes.

Sustainability and Collaboration

As part of the rally, Voltric supported the mission of Climate Action Wales to tackle transport emissions—currently the third-largest source of carbon emissions in Wales. Events like EV Rally Cymru not only showcase the viability of EVs but also promote critical discussions about decarbonization, charging infrastructure, and preparing for the UK’s 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel vehicles.
