We are excited to share the success of the recently concluded ‘Sustainable FinTech Leadership Programme’, a groundbreaking initiative offered through a unique collaboration between FinTech Wales and the London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF). This programme, which ran from January to February 2024, has empowered professionals across the fintech, finance, and technology sectors to address urgent environmental and social challenges through strategic sustainability efforts.

The five-module programme provided a comprehensive framework for participants to deepen their understanding of sustainability strategies and how to embed them effectively within their organisations. The sessions were led by subject matter experts and complemented by international guest speakers, giving participants both global insights and practical, actionable advice.

Delivered in a hybrid format, participants had the flexibility to join the sessions either online or in-person at the FinTech Wales office. Although many of the modules were conducted virtually due to the global expertise of the speakers, we also had the pleasure of welcoming in-person guest speakers, which provided an engaging and interactive learning experience.

Course Highlights:

  • Defining a sustainability strategy – Participants learned to develop meaningful and scalable sustainability frameworks for their organisations.
  • Greening business operations – This module focused on integrating environmentally responsible practices into core business functions.
  • Delivering positive social impact – Participants explored ways to contribute to social good while driving business success.
  • Implementing ESG disclosures – Practical tools and insights were shared on how to adhere to global standards and ensure transparency in ESG reporting.
  • Using ‘tech for good’ – This forward-looking module highlighted how technology can be leveraged to achieve sustainability goals, particularly in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Programme Outcomes:

  • Participants gained a deep, practical understanding of sustainability strategies and how to advance existing initiatives.
  • The course provided a platform for thought leadership, contributing to the wider movement of using ‘tech for good.’
  • The programme connected professionals to a global network of sustainability leaders, enhancing collaboration across borders.

Certification:

Upon completing the programme, participants were awarded a digital Certificate endorsed by the LIBF. This not only recognised their achievement but also contributed to their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours.

Looking Ahead:

This programme is a significant milestone in the journey towards building more sustainable fintech and financial institutions. The success of the first cohort affirms FinTech Wales’ commitment to leading change in the industry. We look forward to offering similar impactful learning opportunities in the future.
