South Wales Valleys Strengthen AI Investment Proposition with New Digital Infrastructure

Transport for Wales’ ffeibr network has linked Cloud Centres and Vantage Data Centres in South Wales, creating a high-speed route into one of Europe’s largest data centre campuses.

The new connection gives local businesses access to fast, reliable connectivity for cloud services, AI workloads and other modern digital applications, strengthening Wales’ digital infrastructure and its proposition for technology-led growth.

The development marks the latest stage in ffeibr’s expansion since the full-fibre network launched in November 2024.

Expanding South Wales’ digital infrastructure

Cloud Centres Networks became ffeibr’s first commercial contract in 2025, when it delivered a fibre connectivity solution in partnership with Cardiff University.

ffeibr has since extended its network into central Cardiff and has now connected the Cloud Centres facility directly to Vantage, increasing its presence across South Wales’ data centre corridor.

The full-fibre network has been built in parallel with the electrification of the Welsh Core Valley Train Lines, providing robust connectivity to areas that have traditionally been harder to reach.

Supporting data-driven businesses in the Valleys

The network is designed to give businesses and organisations access to high-capacity digital infrastructure beyond Wales’ main urban centres.

When ffeibr launched in 2024, Transport for Wales said the network was intended to create high-bandwidth connectivity for South Wales Valley communities, with the potential to support sectors including data centres, AI, manufacturing and other next-generation industries.

Connecting two South Wales hosting centres

The latest connection also links two major hosting facilities in South Wales, providing additional options for customers operating across multiple hosting locations.
