Julie-Ann Haines Appointed Chair of the Building Societies Association
The announcement was made at the BSA’s annual conference in Birmingham, where it was confirmed that Haines, who has served as Deputy Chair, will now step into the leading role. Her appointment comes at a historic moment as the BSA celebrates its 250th anniversary this year, while Principality is also set to mark 165 years of service in 2025.
“I’m absolutely delighted to become Chair of the BSA. It’s a really exciting time to take on this role, as our sector celebrates its 250th anniversary – that’s 250 years of mutuals helping their communities. The way we work might have changed, but our purpose is still the same: to support people and communities.
As Chair, I’ll be working hard to make sure we’re being heard in all the right places, from Westminster to the devolved parliaments. We want to show just how valuable building societies are – now and for the future.”
This appointment is seen as a testament to Haines’ leadership and commitment to mutuality and community-focused banking. For Principality Building Society—a proud member of FinTech Wales—this recognition further strengthens its voice in shaping the future of financial services across the UK.
FinTech Wales extends its congratulations to Julie-Ann Haines and the entire Principality team on this outstanding achievement.
