Principality and OneBanx Fintech Partnership Brings Card-Free Cash Access to Maesteg

Principality Building Society and OneBanx continue their partnership to expand access to cash and banking services in Welsh communities, launching a fourth shared banking kiosk in Maesteg.

In response to ongoing bank closures across the UK, Principality Building Society and OneBanx have taken another step to ensure accessible financial services remain available on Welsh high streets. The newest OneBanx kiosk has launched inside Principality’s Maesteg branch, marking the fourth such installation in Wales through this innovative partnership.

The initiative supports Principality’s commitment to maintaining a high street presence until at least the end of 2030, a pledge reaffirmed at the Society’s Annual General Meeting in April. The Maesteg installation follows successful rollouts in Cowbridge, Caerphilly, and Buckley Library, each reinforcing the Society’s dedication to its Members and their communities.

Reviving Local Banking Services

The OneBanx kiosk allows individuals and business customers of most major UK banks and building societies to deposit and withdraw cash without the need for a bank card. The service is offered free of charge, with funds instantly available, and is also accessible in the Welsh language.

Accessible during branch opening hours six days a week, the kiosk is supported by Principality colleagues to ensure a seamless experience for customers seeking in-person financial services.

Leadership Commentary

Kelly Young, Head of Savings Customer Services at Principality Building Society, said:

“I’m so pleased to announce Principality’s fourth installation of a OneBanx kiosk, this time in our Maesteg branch.

Our members tell us that access to cash and essential services makes a real difference — it keeps the high street vibrant and gives our Members, colleagues, and communities confidence. In an area that has felt the impact of bank closures, we believe this service, along with our continued commitment to the high street, will help residents and businesses manage their finances and strengthen both the community and the local economy.”

Javed Anjum, CEO of OneBanx, added:

“We are delighted to continue expanding our strategic partnership with Principality Building Society, in support of their commitment to their Members and customers of other banks who are no longer able to attend a local branch.

At OneBanx, we believe technology should open doors rather than close them. Our platform not only ensures continued access to cash, but also helps customers and businesses become more confident in managing their money in a digital age. By combining innovation with trusted face-to-face services, we’re enabling communities to embrace new ways of banking while keeping the high street vibrant and inclusive for everyone.”

Looking Ahead

As communities across Wales continue to face reduced access to traditional banking services, initiatives like this exemplify how fintech and mutual organisations can work together to meet local needs while fostering digital confidence. The rollout of OneBanx kiosks is poised to play a key role in preserving community access to vital financial services.
