What connects seagrass meadows, flood warnings and the future of fintech? Our shared dependence on a healthy natural environment.

Hosted by National Trust Cymru at Tredegar House & Park, our monthly FinTech Wales networking breakfast brought together people from technology, financial services, conservation and business for From Landscape to Data: Building a Climate-Resilient Wales.

The morning explored how data, technology and collaboration can help Wales understand environmental risks, respond more effectively and support positive outcomes for nature and society.

From landscape to data

Lhosa Daly, Director for Wales at National Trust Cymru, set the scene with a reminder that Wales’s growing technology economy depends on healthy land, air and water, and that restoring nature is a shared responsibility.

Our panel with Dr Richard Unsworth of Project Seagrass and Laura Thomson of Gopher Zero explored how technology can help us understand and respond to environmental challenges.

From satellite technology helping locate seagrass habitats to flood warnings helping communities prepare, the connection between data and people was central: how do we turn information into understanding, care and action?

The conversation also looked towards the next generation, considering how young people’s relationship with technology could shape their connection with nature in the years ahead.

Connecting nature, infrastructure and business

Tredegar House provided a fitting setting for the discussion. Its historic water-management features, modern flood-mitigation infrastructure and proximity to major digital infrastructure illustrate how climate resilience, heritage, nature and technology intersect.

For our fintech and financial services community, there is plenty to consider, from understanding climate risk to sharing expertise and supporting conservation through meaningful partnerships.

Our ask is simple: take one small step. Connect with National Trust Cymru, Project Seagrass or Gopher Zero to find out what that could look like for you or your business. It might mean giving your time, sharing your expertise or exploring a collaboration. You don’t need all the answers to start a conversation.

Thank you to Jamie Luck and the National Trust Cymru team for hosting an inspiring morning, and to everyone who joined the conversation in such a beautiful setting.
