New Apprenticeship Incentive Scheme to Create 100 Opportunities Across South West Wales

Micro and small businesses across South West Wales are being encouraged to take advantage of a new regional apprenticeship incentive scheme designed to boost skills, support business growth and create 100 new apprenticeship opportunities.

The new employer apprenticeship incentive scheme has received funding through the Swansea Bay City Deal’s Skills and Talent Programme and is being led by the Regional Learning and Skills Partnership (RLSP).

Developed in response to growing demand for skilled workers across the region, the initiative aims to strengthen the pipeline of future talent in sectors critical to South West Wales’ economic success, including engineering, digital technologies, energy and advanced manufacturing.

Financial support for smaller employers

The scheme will provide targeted financial support to micro and small businesses employing fewer than 35 people, helping them overcome some of the costs associated with recruiting apprentices and investing in workforce development.

By reducing financial barriers, the programme aims to unlock new employment opportunities while enabling businesses to develop the skilled workforce they need to grow and thrive.

Creating opportunities for young people

The employer apprenticeship incentive will also create 100 opportunities for young people aged 16 to 19, providing a valuable route into employment through paid work, industry-recognised qualifications and practical, hands-on experience.

Apprenticeships offer a proven pathway to rewarding careers, allowing young people to earn while they learn and gain the skills employers are actively seeking.

As the regional body responsible for identifying and responding to workforce and skills challenges, the RLSP will oversee the programme, working closely with employers, training providers and key stakeholders to ensure investment is directed where it can have the greatest impact.
