Monmouthshire Building Society Wins National Governance Impact Award

Monmouthshire Building Society has been recognised at the Impact 100 Awards, with its two-person governance team receiving the Governance Impact – Small Team Award for its work transforming governance practices across the organisation.

The awards recognise individuals and teams shaping the future of the governance profession across the UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands, celebrating excellence in decision-making, transparency, risk management and organisational effectiveness.

Monmouthshire Building Society received the Governance Impact – Small Team Award, standing out in a category featuring major organisations including Monzo, Sainsbury’s, Shell, Ocado and Airbnb.

The award recognises the work of Head of Governance and Company Secretary Allison Currie and Assistant Company Secretary Karen Harris, who led a programme to modernise the Society’s governance framework, strengthen Board effectiveness and improve operational efficiency.

Their work included streamlining governance processes, introducing new technologies to support decision-making and establishing a sustainable delivery model within a two-person team.

Importantly, the transformation was delivered without additional budget, resources or external support.

Speaking about the award, Allison Currie said:

“We are delighted that our small team at Monmouthshire Building Society has received this recognition, particularly as the work was delivered without additional budget, resources or external support. While the nomination was submitted in Karen’s and my name, this award reflects the contribution of many colleagues across the Society.”

She also highlighted the contribution of colleagues across the organisation, including the Board and Risk and Compliance teams, whose collaboration helped deliver the improvements.

The recognition highlights the impact that smaller teams can make in strengthening governance and driving organisational change within the financial services sector.
