Merthyr College FinTech Academy Students Gain Insight at Monmouthshire Building Society

Students from Y Coleg Merthyr Tudful / The College Merthyr Tydfil FinTech Academy were recently welcomed by Monmouthshire Building Society for a hands-on Insight Day, offering a valuable look into the inner workings of the financial services sector and the pivotal role technology plays in shaping its future.

The immersive session helped students explore a range of topics, including:

  • Understanding the wider role of building societies and how technology is driving transformation.
  • Exploring diverse career pathways within tech and financial services.
  • Developing practical skills in budget planning and resource management.

To conclude the day, students were set live business challenges to work on in the coming months. These challenges will be revisited later this year, as students present their innovative solutions directly to Monmouthshire Building Society.

This initiative is a powerful example of how academic learning can be meaningfully connected with real-world applications. It’s inspiring to see emerging Welsh talent being given the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the sector.

Fintech Wales extends thanks to Sally Williams and the team at Monmouthshire Building Society for hosting the students and delivering such an engaging session. Special recognition also goes to Liana James, Hannah Salter, and Leanne Jones for their continued support of the FinTech Academy programme.
