Laura Sandys CBE Appointed Chair of Sero to Drive Energy Transformation in Social Housing

Cardiff-based Retrofit and Energy-as-a-Service innovator Sero has announced the appointment of Laura Sandys CBE as Chair of the Board. Laura transitions into this new role from her position as a non-executive director, deepening her commitment to advancing the company’s mission of decarbonising homes within the UK’s social housing sector.

With over two decades of experience in the energy sector, Laura brings exceptional expertise in grid electrification, customer-focused Net Zero strategies, and energy policy. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in Sero’s strategic journey, positioning the company for further growth as it scales its retrofit and energy efficiency solutions for housing associations and their residents.

James Williams, Co-founder and CEO of Sero, said:
“Laura’s contributions over the last six months as non-executive director have been invaluable. We have witnessed her deep industry knowledge and strategic vision firsthand, and we are excited that she has agreed to step into the Chair role. This transition marks an important milestone in our partnership. With her wealth of experience and connections, we are confident that Sero will continue to make great strides in our mission to create a more sustainable, affordable energy future for all.”

As Chair, Laura will support Sero’s work across its Energy-as-a-Service offering, overseeing the company’s mission to reduce fuel poverty and carbon emissions through scalable, impactful retrofit initiatives. She currently chairs The Green Alliance, advises the International Energy Agency on smart grids, and formerly served on the UK Government’s Energy Efficiency Taskforce, where she led the domestic efficiency working group.

Beyond her achievements in energy, Laura also advocates for systemic change to combat fuel and food poverty. As founder and chair of The Food Foundation, she champions sustainable public policies that benefit low-income households.

Laura Sandys CBE, Chair at Sero, said:
“My time with the Sero team so far has been both exciting and enlightening. I’ve been inspired by the company’s commitment to retrofitting social housing and addressing energy efficiency for those who need it most. I am eager to take on this more involved role and work together to reduce energy bills, tackle fuel poverty, and drive the transition to cleaner, more affordable energy for social housing residents.”

Her appointment further strengthens Sero’s ambition to deliver innovative energy solutions that empower communities and advance the UK’s Net Zero goals.
