IE Hub Expands Reach in Wales Through Credit Union Partnerships Backed by Welsh Government

IE Hub, the online budgeting platform, has expanded its footprint in Wales through new partnerships with four prominent credit unions, supported by funding from the Welsh Government’s Financial and Digital Inclusion initiative.

Cambrian Credit Union (based in Rhyl), Gateway Credit Union (serving Monmouthshire and Torfaen), Merthyr Credit Union, and Cardiff and Vale Credit Unions have all signed agreements to offer the IE Hub platform to their members. The partnerships aim to support credit union members—many of whom are financially vulnerable—by offering tools to better manage personal finances and navigate debt.

The funding provided enables these credit unions to meet regulatory expectations under the Consumer Duty, while enhancing their digital offering to members.

IE Hub’s online platform enables users to:

  • Accurately assess income and expenditure
  • Identify available support and unclaimed benefits
  • Share affordability information securely with multiple creditors
  • Tailor and manage debt payment plans more effectively

As part of the partnership, IE Hub will help members of these credit unions gain access to financial tools that can support long-term financial wellbeing.

Gareth Llewelyn, Chief Commercial Officer of IE Hub, spoke on the partnership during the recent Banking in Welsh Communities event, co-hosted by Fintech Wales and the Welsh Government. He stated:

“As a proud Welsh-based company, we are thrilled to welcome another four of Wales’ Credit Unions into the IE Hub fold. These leading Credit Unions have recognised the importance of providing digital options to allow their customers access to easy-to-use solutions to financially plan, budget and manage debts.”

He added:

“Historically, Credit Union members are people who come from low-income families, who typically struggle to get access to financial products elsewhere. Having access to our platform is valuable to them, allowing them to maximise their income, understand their finances and agree payment plans with any creditors.”

Ann Francis of Cambrian Credit Union commented:

“Our members are amongst the most financially vulnerable in society. Any support we can give to help them manage their situation, provide appropriate support and reduce financial anxiety is most welcome.”
