Futures Academy – Gower College Swansea

The Futures Academy was launched in 2018 to improve employability outcomes for A Level students who choose not to progress to higher education. Partnering with Better Jobs, Better Futures—the college’s employability arm—and working closely with curriculum teams, the Academy provides tailored employment pathways, enabling learners to transition directly into jobs or apprenticeships upon completing their A Levels.

The programme combines industry-led group sessions, employability workshops, and one-to-one career coaching, giving learners invaluable insights into the labour market and equipping them with the skills employers need. Sessions are supported by professionals from local and national businesses, ensuring learners gain real-world experience and connections.

Due to its success, the Futures Academy has continued annually, and in January 2025, we proudly launched our 8th cohort.

Futures Academy Impact (2018 – 2024):

142 students have completed the programme

92 students progressed into full-time employment or an apprenticeship

38 students pursued further or higher education to enhance their career prospects

12 students continued receiving employability support through Better Jobs, Better Futures

With 92% of participants securing employment, apprenticeships, or further education aligned with their career goals, the Academy has proven to be a powerful bridge between education and the workplace.
