PLUG Charging Supports Cardiff Council on EV Charging Rollout Across the City
PLUG Charging is supporting Cardiff Council in the rollout of on-street electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the city.
The installation programme, which has now gone live, introduces lamp column EV chargers designed to expand access to charging for residents, particularly those without access to off-street parking.
According to Jarrad Morris, Founder and CEO of PLUG Charging, the rollout follows around 15 months of planning, collaboration and problem-solving to make on-street charging a reality for Cardiff.
Designed with residents in mind, the chargers are integrated directly into existing lamp columns and installed at the front of the pavement. This approach helps avoid additional street clutter and removes the need for trailing cables across footways.
The chargers can be accessed via the PLUG Charging UK & Ireland app, which allows users to locate nearby chargers, check availability and start a charge.
Cardiff Council said the scheme forms part of a wider programme of transport and infrastructure activity aimed at improving air quality and supporting the city’s One Planet Cardiff strategy to reduce carbon emissions.
In his LinkedIn post announcing the milestone, Jarrad Morris said the launch was a proud moment for the business and highlighted the local significance of the project as a Cardiff-based company. He also noted that a percentage of profits from the initiative will go back to community causes in Cardiff.
The rollout marks an important step in expanding accessible EV infrastructure in the Welsh capital while supporting cleaner transport and wider sustainability goals.
