We had a wonderful evening at the 2022 CAVC Annual Awards, and were delighted to have taken home the Business and Partner Award.

The awards, which celebrate learner success and achievements from the previous academic year as well as recognising business partners and their ongoing commitment to education and development, took place on Tuesday 6th December at CAVC City Centre Campus.

Representatives from FinTech Wales’ team accepted the award, which we received in recognition of our pilot coding academies – intensive programmes covering technical skills, soft skills and project-management methodologies – launched in partnership with Cardiff and Vale College to develop the skills required to support the FinTech ecosystem in Wales.

The 10-week Coding Academies were created and delivered by Cardiff and Vale College, iungo Solutions, The Knowledge Academy, risual Limited and Ikigai Data, and endorsed by Admiral Group Plc, Principality Building Society, Deloitte and Hodge, based on the skills gaps and current job vacancies in Cardiff Capital Region’s Fintech sector, which were identified by FinTech Wales members.

The academies were a resounding success, seeing 30 new Developers trained and ready to contribute to Wales’ FinTech ecosystem, and with at least half having found employment or progressed into further education so far.

On receiving the award, our Head of Skills, Gemma Hallett said: “We are thrilled to be recognised for this Business and Partner Award on behalf of the whole FinTech sector in Wales. The FinTech Wales Coding Academy pilot was a crucial part of our strategy to generate talent and connect members with work ready talent. We look forward to building on this pilot and nurturing a skills pipeline for the sector right in the heart of Cardiff City Centre”
