FinTech Wales Supports UK Government’s Initiative to Protect Port Talbot Steel Supply Chain and Workers

At FinTech Wales, we are proud to stand alongside the UK Government in their latest initiative to support businesses and workers affected by Tata Steel’s transition to greener steelmaking in Port Talbot. Today’s announcement of £13.5 million in funding marks a crucial step in safeguarding the livelihoods of those impacted within our local community.

As part of this initiative, we have joined over 50 other businesses in pledging our support to the workers and suppliers who may be facing redundancies. Our commitment at FinTech Wales is to provide practical assistance to these individuals, helping them navigate new career paths within the thriving FinTech and financial services sectors.

Sarah Williams-Gardener, Chair of FinTech Wales, expresses our dedication to this cause:

“We at FinTech Wales are proud to support today’s pledge to assist workers impacted by the transition at Tata Steel. Through our various initiatives and academies, we offer resources to help individuals transition into new tech careers, alongside hosting regular career and talent events. We are committed to making these opportunities accessible to those affected by the upcoming redundancies.”

This funding is a significant part of a broader effort led by the Welsh Secretary Jo Stevens, aimed at ensuring that businesses and workers can adapt to the evolving industrial landscape. As the Port Talbot steel industry faces this critical transition, we believe that our collective action will help mitigate the impact on the local economy and open new doors for those affected.

At FinTech Wales, we are committed to being a driving force in this effort, offering support through training, career development resources, and networking opportunities within Wales’ dynamic FinTech sector. We believe that by coming together as a community, we can make a meaningful difference.
