Get to know Cargo, one of the seven startups forming the cohort for Season 3 of the FinTech Wales Foundry.

What is Cargo’s story?

“Cargo is a digital kitty, aimed at group leaders, designed to help them better manage the finances, people and the details associated with group events. Users are issued with a digital wallet that can be used to save funds and make payments for anything from travel and accommodation through to food in a restaurant. We’re here to save time and take the stress out of planning – so everyone gets to enjoy the event.”

What is the problem your startup has spotted and is looking to solve?

“It’s really hard to plan group events. Whether it’s a holiday away or an evening out, group leaders are left spinning so many plates: managing people, collecting, chasing and making payments plus having to answer the same questions over and over. Adding to that pressure, leaders have little choice but to use multiple tools to get the event off the ground; excel spreadsheets, group chats, savings pots and using personal banking facilities to pay for everything. We’re offering a solution that rolls these tools into one, easy to use application.”

Why did you decide to apply for an accelerator programme and what do you hope/expect to get out of the Foundry?

“We’re Welsh founders, so the chance to build in Wales was an opportunity that was almost too good to be true. There’s an unbelievable network of mentors and organisations who have been there and done it here; having that to lean on was a key motivation for us. We’re hoping the Foundry provides the platform we need to build a foundation that allows us to scale.”
