We also congratulate Stephen Kinnock MP on his appointment as Secretary of State for Wales. We look forward to working closely with both the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State to champion Wales as one of the UK’s leading fintech hubs, helping to drive innovation, attract investment, develop world-class skills and create high-quality jobs that support economic growth across Wales and the wider UK.

Wales has built a dynamic and increasingly influential fintech sector, bringing together established financial institutions, technology businesses, entrepreneurs, universities and public-sector partners. As one of the UK’s leading fintech hubs, the Welsh ecosystem is making a significant contribution to skilled employment, inward investment, innovation and regional economic development, playing an increasingly important role in strengthening the UK’s global competitiveness and long-term economic growth.

Sarah Jones, CEO of FinTech Wales, said:

“We congratulate Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Secretary of State for Wales Stephen Kinnock on their appointments and look forward to working with them to unlock the full potential of Wales’ fintech sector.

“We welcome the Prime Minister’s emphasis on devolving power, backing British industry and developing a long-term plan for economic renewal. With sustained collaboration between the UK Government, the Welsh Government, industry and academia, Wales can further strengthen its position as one of the UK’s leading centres for financial innovation, supporting regional prosperity while making a meaningful contribution to the UK’s wider growth ambitions.

“We look forward to constructive engagement with both the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Wales to grow our sector, attract further investment, support startups and scaling businesses, and create high-quality employment opportunities across Wales and the wider UK.”
