Financial Education Charity MyBnk Officially Expands to Wales with Launch Event

MyBnk, the UK’s leading financial education charity, has officially launched its work in Wales with a special event at Cardiff and Vale College. The milestone celebration marks nearly a year since MyBnk began delivering its high-impact financial education programmes to young people across the country.

Empowering Young People with Financial Literacy

Since expanding into Wales, MyBnk has already delivered over 200 hours of financial education, reaching more than 1,100 young people aged 7 to 37. The charity’s mission is to equip young people with the skills and confidence to manage money effectively and avoid financial pitfalls.

The event brought together educators, policymakers, and finance professionals to highlight MyBnk’s achievements and explore future opportunities for collaboration in financial education.

Panel Discussion: Decoding Financial Advice in the Digital Age

As part of Global Money Week 2025, the event featured a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “Think Before You Follow – Decoding Financial Advice in the Digital Age”. The session focused on equipping young people and adults with the skills to critically evaluate financial advice found online.

Key discussion points included:

  • The evolving landscape of financial education and advice on social media
  • How to identify scams and misleading financial information
  • The psychological triggers behind financial decision-making
  • The role of AI and algorithms in shaping financial choices

Leon Ward, CEO of MyBnk, emphasised the importance of financial literacy in the digital world:

“With more people turning to social media for financial advice, it’s crucial to be able to separate credible guidance from misleading information. Our goal is to equip people in Wales with the knowledge to make informed financial decisions, no matter where they get their information.”

The panel featured insights from Sarah Kocianski, Head of FinTech Wales, and Zoë Wallis-Shields from Coleg Penybont | Bridgend College, alongside MyBnk CEO Leon Ward.

A Growing Commitment to Financial Education in Wales

The launch event showcased MyBnk’s commitment to strengthening financial literacy across Wales. Sarah Kocianski, Head of FinTech Wales, attended the event as a speaker, reinforcing the importance of empowering young people with financial knowledge.

The event also served as a networking opportunity, inviting educators, policymakers, and businesses to collaborate on expanding financial education initiatives in Wales.

What’s Next for MyBnk Cymru?

With the successful launch of MyBnk Cymru, the charity has now completed its network of hubs across all four nations of the UK. Looking ahead, MyBnk aims to expand its reach and impact in Wales, ensuring that more young people gain essential financial knowledge and skills.
