Employer Day at Cardiff and Vale College Connects Fintech Talent with Industry Leaders
The first Employer Day of 2025 at Cardiff and Vale College’s (CAVC) Coding Academy provided an invaluable opportunity for students to connect with leading employers from the FinTech Wales ecosystem. Held at the start of each academy programme, the event helps participants gain first-hand industry insights, ask key career questions, and understand the evolving demands of tech roles.
A Collaborative Effort to Support Future Tech Talent
FinTech Wales worked in collaboration with Cardiff and Vale College to engage the fintech ecosystem, bringing together industry leaders to share their career experiences and recruitment insights with the current cohort. Representatives from de Novo Solutions, Principality Building Society, EY, Cognisess, and more joined the session, offering advice on career development in the tech sector.
A key theme of the day was the importance of transferable skills—emphasising that while technical expertise is essential, attributes like communication, problem-solving, and adaptability are just as critical for success in fintech roles.
“Thank you for such a good day! Loved seeing all the learners so engaged. A massive thank you to everyone who was involved.”
— Caroline Morgan, Business Development Consultant at Cardiff and Vale College
Diverse Cohort, Shared Ambition
The 17 participants in this year’s cohort come from a variety of backgrounds, including those with previous work experience in tech, individuals formalising their skills, and even those transitioning into tech careers from different sectors. The group included a participant returning to work after maternity leave, demonstrating the accessibility and inclusivity of the programme.
“It was a really good day and completely agree – great cohort, and I hope to see some of them at EY in the near future!”
— Rob Branch, Head of Proposition – FinTech Labs at EY
“It was an absolute pleasure to be involved. Wishing all at the Coding Academy lots of luck in the next chapter of their journey. And don’t forget, never be afraid to show the best of you!”
— Natalie Sweeny, UK Head of People & Corporate Services at de Novo Solutions
