Cardiff Capital Region Seeks New Investment Board Members to Shape South East Wales’ Economic Future
The Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) is calling on experienced senior leaders from across the business community to apply for roles on its Investment Board, helping to shape the future of major investments across South East Wales.
Operating through the South East Wales Corporate Joint Committee (CJC), CCR drives long-term, sustainable economic growth by investing in infrastructure, innovation, skills, and business development throughout the region.
The Investment Board plays a critical advisory role in this mission, offering expert guidance on significant investment programmes alongside five public sector Chief Executives. While advisory, the Board’s recommendations hold substantial influence over CJC investment decisions.
Role Overview
As a member of the Investment Board, individuals will be responsible for:
- Reviewing and challenging investment proposals across CCR’s regional investment funds;
- Shaping investment frameworks and new funding programmes;
- Providing strategic insight into portfolio performance, risks, and opportunities;
- Upholding the principles of good governance, transparency, and public value.
Candidate Profile
CCR is seeking applications from individuals with:
- Senior-level experience in sectors such as business, finance, investment, infrastructure, innovation, housing, energy, or advanced manufacturing;
- Expertise in investment appraisal, corporate or project finance, or oversight of major capital projects;
- A sound understanding of regional economic development in South East Wales;
- A strong commitment to public service, integrity, and sound governance.
While experience with public or regulated funding, fund management, or non-executive roles is welcomed, it is not essential for all appointments.
Commitment and Term
- Approximately 10–12 days annually, including 4–6 Board meetings, preparation, and occasional additional engagements.
- Appointments are expected to last between 2 to 4 years.
- This is a non-remunerated role, although reasonable expenses will be covered.
Commitment to Diversity
CCR is committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities it serves. Applications are particularly welcomed from women, disabled people, ethnic minority communities, younger leaders, and individuals with lived experience of socio-economic disadvantage.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit:
- A current CV (maximum 3 pages);
- A supporting statement (maximum 2 pages) addressing the questions in the Investment Board Application Form and detailing how they meet the person specification.
Applications should be sent to [email protected] with the subject line “Investment Board Member Application”.
Deadline: Friday 23 January at 23:59
