Cardiff-based Fintech Zero Launches Google Pay Following £1.5 Million Crowdfunding Success
Cardiff-based sustainable finance app Zero has officially launched Google Pay integration, following a highly successful crowdfunding campaign that raised over £1.48 million—including more than £1 million via Crowdcube. The B Corp-certified fintech has also announced it has surpassed 3,500 customer accounts.
The new Google Pay feature enables customers to store their Zero debit Mastercard on Android devices and make seamless, contactless payments. The launch marks a major step forward in Zero’s mission to offer eco-conscious consumers a smarter, greener way to manage their money.
Following extensive feedback from early adopters, Zero is gearing up to expand its offering with a customer-led product roadmap. Upcoming features include support for additional digital wallets, funding accounts through open banking, improved GreenScore® recommendations, and direct debit capabilities.
“This new funding is a huge leap forward for Zero. It means faster growth, smarter hires, and—most importantly—building the features our community wants to see. Our customers are at the heart of every decision we make, which is why we’re proudly committing 20% of the business to them. The future of Zero is being shaped by the people who believe in it.”
— Richard Theo, Co-founder and CEO of Zero
More than 3,500 customers have already joined the platform, which offers a unique GreenScore® to help users understand and improve the environmental impact of their lifestyle and spending. As a customer-owned platform, 20% of the business will be collectively owned by its user base, reinforcing Zero’s commitment to building a finance platform shaped by and for the community it serves.
This growth aligns with rising consumer demand for environmentally responsible banking. According to research conducted by Opinium in August 2022:
- 61% of people believe banks should actively fight climate change, yet fewer than half feel their current bank is doing enough.
- 59% want their money to be used in ways that help the environment.
Zero is positioning itself as a purpose-driven solution to these concerns, offering a transparent, user-first alternative in a rapidly evolving fintech landscape.
