• Amazon plans to invest £40bn across the UK over the next three years, having already invested more than £2bn in Wales since 2010
Amazon-owned Welsh tech start-up Veeqo has officially opened its new headquarters in Swansea, marking a significant milestone in the company’s continued growth. The homegrown business has trebled its global workforce in just three years, expanding from 60 employees in 2021 to more than 200 today.
The new HQ, located at The Kingsway, is part of Swansea’s state-of-the-art development designed to attract leading tech, digital, and creative companies. The office was formally opened on Friday 5 December during an event attended by local politicians, including Swansea West MP and Treasury Minister Torsten Bell.
Veeqo provides free shipping and inventory management software used by more than 100,000 businesses worldwide. The platform enables e-commerce companies to fulfil orders across multiple sales channels, synchronise inventory and access low-cost shipping rates.
Acquired by Amazon in 2021, Veeqo launched Amazon’s first Welsh Development Centre in 2022 and has since grown rapidly. Half of its 200 employees are now based at the new Swansea site, with roles spanning software development engineering, technical product management, knowledge engineering, UX design, and business analysis.
Amazon has invested more than £60 million into the Swansea Development Centre and Veeqo HQ between 2022 and 2025. As part of its wider £40bn planned UK investment over the next three years, Amazon will invest an additional £100+ million in the Swansea site through to 2032—totalling more than £150 million in a decade.
Veeqo also maintains strong partnerships with Swansea University and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, supporting local talent through student placements, apprenticeships, and graduate internships. The new headquarters will provide modern facilities to continue building innovative e-commerce solutions.
Matt Warren, CEO and Founder of Veeqo, said:
“Our expanded office in Swansea enables us to continue building services which make it easier for entrepreneurs and businesses to sell around the world. I’m proud that we’ve continued creating highly skilled tech jobs in Wales and that our homegrown company is making a big global impact.”
John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager at Amazon, added:
“Since launching our first Welsh development centre just three years ago, we’ve watched Veeqo’s team grow from 60 to over 200 people globally—proof that Wales has the talent and ambition to build world-class technology. This new headquarters represents our long-term commitment to Wales, and I’m excited to see what Veeqo will build next.”
Torsten Bell, Treasury Minister and MP for Swansea West, who cut the ribbon at the opening, said:
“Veeqo is a true Welsh success story and exactly the kind of high-value, technology-driven growth we want to see flourishing across Wales. Their commitment to nurturing local talent and supporting apprentices and interns demonstrates real investment in our community.”
Rebecca Evans MS, Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Economy, commented:
“This investment demonstrates Wales’s growing reputation as a hub for technology and innovation. Veeqo’s expansion creates high-quality jobs and supports businesses across Wales and beyond.”
Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said:
“Veeqo is a true local success story — born here, grown here, and now thriving internationally under Amazon. Having them at the Kingsway development is a vote of confidence in Swansea’s talent, infrastructure and future as a leading tech city. Staff at Veeqo will now be joining hundreds of staff from other companies already working at the building, with more tenants to be announced in the coming weeks as we head towards full occupancy and up to 600 people working there. This development will also combine with other schemes in the city centre to create far more footfall, which will help support existing traders and attract more businesses in future.”
More than half of all physical product sales in the Amazon UK store now come from independent selling partners, the majority of which are small and medium-sized businesses. With more than 100,000 UK Amazon sellers, Veeqo’s free shipping software helps reduce the cost and complexity of multichannel fulfilment. Learn more at veeqo.com.
Beyond creating jobs and economic growth, Veeqo and Amazon remain committed to supporting communities across Wales. Veeqo sponsors local initiatives including coding workshops and women’s tech meetups, helping inspire the next generation of industry talent. Amazon also supports families through its Cwtch Mawr (Big Hug) Multibank in Swansea, run with Faith in Families, which has provided more than 800,000 essential products to over 200,000 families with support from Welsh Government and Swansea Council.
Amazon recently announced plans to invest £40 billion across the UK between 2025 and 2027, contributing an estimated £38 billion to UK GDP. This investment includes four new fulfilment centres, new delivery stations, and upgrades to its existing network of more than 100 operations buildings. It will create thousands of new permanent jobs, including 2,000 each in Hull and Northampton. Since 2010, Amazon has invested more than £2.4 billion in Wales and created over 2,000 full and part-time jobs. Amazon now employs over 75,000 people in the UK, paying a minimum of £29,744 for full-time operations employees, and up to £31,824 in some areas.
