Admiral Highlights Data Analytics Apprenticeship Programme during National Apprenticeship Week
To mark National Apprenticeship Week, Admiral Group Plc is shining a spotlight on its first-ever Data Analytics Apprenticeship Programme, highlighting how apprenticeships are helping to build the next generation of data talent in Wales.
Launched last year, the 18-month programme is designed to open up university-free pathways into data and technology careers. It offers paid, hands-on experience alongside a fully funded Level 3 Diploma in Data Analytics, delivered by ALS Training.
Apprentices follow a hybrid learning model, combining time at Admiral’s Cardiff headquarters with structured learning through its specialist training provider. The programme blends classroom-based development with real-world experience across Admiral’s Data and Technology teams, enabling apprentices to contribute to meaningful business outcomes.
Throughout the programme, apprentices are supported by Admiral’s Data & AI Academy, which provides access to expert-led sessions, mentoring, learning events and a wider data community. On completion, apprentices also join Admiral’s Early Careers Community, offering continued support and development beyond the apprenticeship.
Meet the first cohort
Admiral’s inaugural Data Analytics Apprenticeship cohort brings together individuals from a range of backgrounds, united by a shared interest in data, problem-solving and real-world application.
Burhan joined the programme driven by his passion for maths and numbers. After initially expecting the experience to be daunting, he quickly found the environment to be supportive and collaborative. He is now looking forward to developing his SQL skills and applying his analytical interests in a real-world setting.
Katie Dickinson, who grew up in Cardiff, originally considered an engineering degree before discovering apprenticeships. Drawn by the opportunity to earn while learning and avoid student debt, she joined Admiral for its culture, wellbeing focus and reputation for supporting early careers. She has already explored multiple departments and seen how data underpins decision-making across the business.
Adam Exton, based in Bridgend, knew a traditional university route was not for him after excelling in ICT and Media Studies. Admiral’s apprenticeship offered a practical alternative, allowing him to build on the SQL skills that first inspired his interest in data while working within a supportive workplace culture.
Sion Cule, originally from Barry and now living in Cardiff, completed Welsh-medium A-Levels in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. Seeking a learning path with real-world application, he was attracted to Admiral’s reputation for innovation and culture and is keen to contribute to analysis that supports business decision-making.
A programme built for the future
The Data Analytics Apprenticeship Programme represents a long-term investment in future talent. By offering a pathway that does not require a university degree, Admiral is helping to widen access to high-skilled data and technology roles and support the development of technical capability across South Wales.
With hands-on experience, tailored learning, support from the Data & AI Academy and a strong early careers community, apprentices are contributing from day one while building the foundations for long-term careers in data.
As National Apprenticeship Week highlights the value of apprenticeships across the UK, Admiral’s programme demonstrates how employers can support early-career development while strengthening future skills within the Welsh fintech and data ecosystem.
