Admiral Celebrates 26th Consecutive Year as a Great Place to Work

Admiral’s UK business has been recognised as a Great Place to Work for the 26th consecutive year, reflecting consistent positive feedback from colleagues across the organisation.

The recognition highlights the company’s long-standing focus on workplace culture and employee engagement, with colleague feedback playing a central role in the award.

Lorna Connelly, People Director at Admiral, recently shared five priorities that she believes have helped sustain the company’s workplace culture over the years.

Open Communication

Connelly said clear and honest communication sits at the heart of a strong workplace culture. When colleagues understand what is happening and why, it helps create trust, stability and connection across teams.

She also highlighted the importance of ensuring colleagues feel informed and listened to, particularly as businesses continue to navigate an evolving landscape shaped by new technologies and the increasing use of artificial intelligence.

A Clear Strategy Everyone Can Get Behind

Ensuring colleagues understand the organisation’s long-term direction is another key priority. According to Connelly, when people can see the bigger picture and understand how they contribute to it, they feel more empowered and motivated.

“When colleagues can see the bigger picture and how they contribute to it, they feel empowered, motivated, and part of something meaningful,” she said.

Investing in Leadership

Leaders play an important role in shaping the day-to-day experience of colleagues. Admiral therefore focuses on equipping managers with the tools, training and confidence needed to support their teams effectively.

This includes enabling colleagues to grow and progress as their careers evolve.

The Importance of Teams

Connelly also highlighted the importance of strong teams. Each team is given a dedicated quarterly budget to spend time together outside of meetings or workshops, creating opportunities for colleagues to connect and strengthen relationships.

A Low-Ego Culture

The final priority focuses on maintaining a culture where ideas can come from anywhere and colleagues feel comfortable learning from mistakes.

“A low ego culture isn’t about being quiet, it’s about encouraging openness and respect,” Connelly said. “When things don’t go to plan, we don’t point fingers; we roll up our sleeves and solve it together.”

Reflecting on the recognition, Connelly said the five priorities remain central to maintaining Admiral’s workplace culture.

“I’m incredibly proud to work here, and for me, these five priorities are a big part of why Admiral continues to be recognised as a Great Place to Work.”
