Welsh Entrepreneur Invests £375,000 in Kandaro Capital to Help Unlock Development Funding

Welsh entrepreneur Andrew Richards has invested £375,000 in Kandaro Capital, the funding arm of Kandaro Group, with the aim of helping development projects access finance and encouraging inward investment into Wales.

The investment will support Kandaro Capital’s work with developers across Wales and the UK, helping bridge the gap between projects that have planning consent and those that are ready to secure funding.

Kandaro Capital connects property opportunities with equity providers, construction partners and institutional investors. The business supports clients from initial introductions through to transactions, across acquisition, development, stabilisation and exit.

Helping projects become investment-ready

Developers can face challenges in presenting projects in the form institutional funders require, while funders may struggle to find a consistent pipeline of well-prepared opportunities.

Kandaro Capital works with developers to build an investment-ready case for each scheme, covering planning, costs, values, delivery programmes and risk. It then matches projects with funding partners whose criteria fit, using structures including forward funding, forward commitment and joint ventures.

Richards, who is based between Mountain Ash and London, has interests across utilities, civil engineering, construction, property development and estate agency. His investment brings a focus on connecting Welsh schemes with institutional capital.

The aim is to help bring new homes, jobs and supply-chain opportunities to Wales by supporting projects that might otherwise struggle to progress.

Andrew Richards said:

“Wales has no shortage of good sites or capable developers. What it has lacked is a reliable route to institutional capital. Too many consented schemes stall because the funding case isn’t presented the way investors need to see it.

“Kandaro Capital brings that discipline and those relationships together. Combined with practical experience across utilities, construction and property, we can help schemes become investable and get spades in the ground.”

Karl Spencer, co-founder of Kandaro Group, said:

“Our model is simple: understand the opportunity, match it to the right capital, make the introduction and see it through. Andrew’s backing and his network across property, construction and infrastructure strengthen what we can offer developers, particularly in Wales.”

Writing on LinkedIn, Richards said he hoped the partnership would help connect capital with opportunities and support developers in understanding viable funding routes.

He added that attracting institutional capital and unlocking sites could create opportunities for Welsh contractors and local supply chains, as well as supporting jobs and economic activity.
