FinTech Wales event explores Patent Box opportunities for fintech and regtech businesses
FinTech Wales recently welcomed members of the Welsh fintech ecosystem to an event exploring how Patent Box can support innovation and growth within fintech and regtech businesses.
Hosted by Acuity Law and ForrestBrown, the session highlighted why Patent Box should not be viewed solely as an incentive for sectors such as pharmaceuticals and manufacturing. Instead, attendees explored how innovative fintech and regtech businesses may also be able to benefit from the scheme as part of their wider growth strategy.
The event provided valuable insight into what Patent Box can offer, the potential obstacles businesses may encounter when considering a claim, and the practical considerations involved in assessing eligibility. Throughout the session, attendees shared perspectives and took part in an engaging discussion around qualifying development activities, intellectual property, eligibility requirements and the realities of making a successful claim.
Led by Laura Eastman CTA and Jayne Stokes FCA from ForrestBrown, the session covered how Patent Box can reduce the effective rate of Corporation Tax on qualifying profits, why it is particularly relevant to fintech and regtech businesses, the types of intellectual property and innovation activities that may qualify, common myths and misconceptions, and practical next steps for founders, finance teams and innovation leaders.
Thank you to Acuity Law for hosting the event and to ForrestBrown for delivering an informative and thought-provoking session that helped shine a light on an opportunity many innovative businesses may not have fully explored.
