Damon Chapple and Dafydd Jones Reflect on Entrepreneurship and Impact in Live Festival Recording

A podcast recorded live at the inaugural Wales Fintech Festival is now available to watch, featuring Sonovate Co-CEO Damon Chapple and entrepreneur Dafydd Jones in conversation with Prosper hosts Nick Perrett and Hattie Willis.

The episode explores entrepreneurship, access to capital, purpose-led growth and the motivations that drive founders to keep building, while asking a central question: what does “enough” really look like?

Drawing on their own entrepreneurial journeys, both founders reflected on how their backgrounds have shaped their approach to business, the importance of creating opportunities for others and the role purpose plays in building successful companies.

During the discussion, Dafydd Jones spoke about his mission to increase access to opportunities that have traditionally been out of reach for many people. His latest venture, Flamingo, aims to make venture capital investing more accessible, opening up opportunities that have historically been reserved for institutional and high-net-worth investors.

Jones explained that a common thread throughout his career has been a focus on expanding access and creating more inclusive pathways into investment and entrepreneurship.

The conversation also explored the relationship between impact and commercial success, with both founders discussing how businesses can pursue growth while remaining purpose-driven.

For Damon Chapple, the discussion offered an opportunity to reflect on Sonovate’s recent growth journey, including the company’s landmark £210 million funding facility backed by Germany’s DZ Bank.

Chapple spoke about growing up in South Wales and how those experiences helped shape his entrepreneurial ambitions. He also shared insights into the realities of securing large-scale funding, scaling a fintech business and maintaining a long-term vision for growth.

Both founders offered advice for entrepreneurs navigating the challenges of building and scaling businesses, highlighting the importance of seeking support, building strong networks and surrounding yourself with experienced advisers.

The live recording formed part of the inaugural Wales Fintech Festival, which brought together founders, investors, innovators and industry leaders from across Wales and beyond.
