Principality Building Society Strengthens Senior Leadership Team with Key Appointments

Principality Building Society has announced a series of strategic senior appointments, including the creation of a new Chief Technology Officer role, as it continues to advance its transformation agenda and strengthen its executive team.

The appointments come during the organisation’s 165th anniversary year, marking a significant milestone in its journey as Wales’ largest building society.

Patrick Connolly has been named as Principality’s first Chief Technology Officer (CTO), a newly established role that underscores the Society’s commitment to technological innovation. Originally from Yorkshire, Connolly brings extensive financial services experience, having spent over 12 years at Yorkshire Building Society in roles such as Director of IT and Transformation and Interim Chief Operating Officer.

In his new position, Connolly will oversee the development of Principality’s technology strategy and operational resilience, playing a vital role in driving the Society’s long-term strategic goals and enhancing the experience for both Members and customers.

Also joining the leadership team is Nigel Taylor, who has been appointed Head of Brand, Impact and Communications. Taylor previously led the award-winning marketing and brand team at The Cumberland Building Society for six years, and brings with him a strong background in brand leadership from global organisations including Canon and Huawei.

Taylor will be tasked with evolving Principality’s brand to better reflect its core values, and enhancing its reputation and engagement with colleagues, Members, and stakeholders. Both Connolly and Taylor will report directly to Chief Executive Officer, Julie-Ann Haines.

Further leadership changes within the organisation include internal promotions as the Society continues embedding its new product-led operating model. Vicky Wales, previously Chief Customer Officer, has been appointed as Chief Savings Officer, while Rob Regan, formerly Chief Operating Officer, will now serve as Chief Lending Officer.

Commenting on the appointments, Julie-Ann Haines, Chief Executive Officer at Principality Building Society, said:

“These are key appointments that will help us deliver on our ambitious plans over the coming years, as well as our commitment to providing the best service for our Members.

Both Patrick and Nigel join Principality with a passion for the mutual sector, and a breadth of experience that we can undoubtedly learn and benefit from. Vicky and Rob have been integral to our senior leadership team for many years now and will continue to drive the business forward in their new roles.”

Patrick Connolly, Chief Technology Officer, added:

“I am delighted to be joining Principality’s Executive Team and look forward to contributing to the continued success and growth of the Society.

Technology and innovation play an important role in delivering an exceptional customer experience for our Members, and I’m excited to be working with colleagues to bring this ambition to life.”

Nigel Taylor, Head of Brand, Impact and Communications, said:

“I’m really looking forward to joining Principality, an organisation with a reputation for making a meaningful difference as a modern mutual.

My focus will be on ensuring our brand not only tells our story in an authentic and consistent way to our Members, customers and colleagues but also shows it, bringing our values to life in purposeful way that makes a real and lasting impact.”

Taylor is set to join Principality in October, while Connolly will assume his role at the end of the year. Wales and Regan will transition to their new roles upon Connolly’s arrival.
