Welsh FinTech Leader Zero to Launch Eco-Friendly Money App in January 2025

Spearheaded by chief executive Richard Theodossiades (Richard Theo)—a serial entrepreneur and founder of Wealthify, ActiveQuote, and FinTech Wales—Zero is focused on providing climate-conscious consumers with innovative personal finance solutions that support environmental sustainability.

The leadership team, which includes seasoned experts like chief financial officer Benjamin Dixon (formerly of Kroo and Tandem Bank) and chief sustainability officer Lisa Stanley (previously at Triodos Bank and co-founder of Good With Money.com), is committed to embedding sustainability at the core of its offerings.

Pioneering Green Features

The app promises a suite of sustainability-focused features, including options for users to contribute to carbon sequestration and nature-based projects across Wales, the UK, and beyond.

“Zero is planning its full UK public launch for January 2025 and will be adding a succession of exciting new features to the product throughout 2025,” said Lisa Stanley.

These developments will include:

  • A savings account launching early 2025.
  • A future roadmap with enhanced account features, sustainability tools, and even a potential sustainable investment offer.

Backed by Angel Investors

Zero has secured funding from business angel investors, supported by the Development Bank of Wales Angel Co-Investment Fund. The company is also planning additional investment rounds in 2025 to accelerate its growth.

Experienced Leadership Team

Zero is chaired by Paul Ellis, former chair of the Ecology Building Society, with David Craven as chief operating officer, Kate Hodge as head of product, and Matt Hunt as principal software engineer.

As a proud member of FinTech Wales, Zero is a shining example of innovation in the Welsh financial technology sector. Its mission to merge finance with sustainability is set to resonate with environmentally conscious consumers and further solidify Wales as a hub for FinTech innovation.
